A new set of images is now up for viewing – Mounts Armstrong and Brewster in the Aspiring National Park, near Haast Pass on the main divide.
Due to the unavailability of any climbing buddies just when a lovely weather window finally materialised in the first week of November, at very short notice I hired the able assistance of Chris Prudden of Independent Mountain Guides, Queenstown. We had beautiful weather and a lot of new snow – great for the photos, but soft, unconsolidated snow over hard rime meant that, whilst Mt Armstrong was very straight forward on day 2, Chris felt obligated to take a conservative approach to our climb on the west ridge of Brewster on day 3. Consequently a fair few pitches meant that we were too slow to complete the route. More unfinished business then!
