Setting off just after sunrise, I climbed quickly from Kyanjin Gompa up the broad, open flanks of Tserko Ri. With every pause to draw breath in the thinning air, my reward was an ever widening panorama
Another pause on the flanks of Tserko Ri to take in the expanding panorama
At 4,990 m, Tserko Ri is hardly a serious climb. The route to the prayer flag draped summit was not difficult to negotiate. Never the less, in total seclusion at the top my heart pounded and I enjoyed that delicious feeling of achievement
To the North lie a jumble of peaks, amongst them Yala Peak (5,500m)
At Langtang Lirung’s feet, the Langtang valley stretches away to a southward bend, where it disappears from view
From Tserko Ri it was easy to spot Ganga La, with Naya Kangri (5,846m) to the right
Aside from this powerful raven, I had Tserko Ri all to myself on the ascent and descent. As I prepared to descend, the bird gave a taunting squawk before soaring off down the mountainside. With tired legs I watched his effortless glide with a stab envy
