Chains at the base of the Ladder, leading around to Maungahuka (1,330m). In whiteout conditions this exposed section can be quite disorienting

More mist shrowded ridge, on the approach to Aokaparangi (1,354m)
Heading north to Kahiwiroa (1,320m). I became benighted north of here, after failing to find the route down off the ridge to Anderson Memorial Hut before nightfall. Better to stay put than take the wrong spur, of which there were several to choose from, down into dense bush. While the route is cairned, it's easy to lose them on the wide, rocky, eroded ridge top.
